Lääkeelvytys, also known as pharmacological resuscitation, refers to the use of medications to restore normal cardiac function and circulation in individuals experiencing cardiac arrest or severe hemodynamic instability. This approach is typically employed in conjunction with basic and advanced life support measures, such as chest compressions and defibrillation. The primary goal of lääkeelvytys is to improve the chances of survival and neurological recovery by addressing reversible causes of the arrest and enhancing the effectiveness of other resuscitation efforts.

The specific medications used in lääkeelvytys depend on the underlying cause of the cardiac arrest. For shock-refractory ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia, amiodarone or lidocaine may be administered. In cases of asystole or pulseless electrical activity, epinephrine is the drug of choice, given its potent vasoconstrictive and chronotropic effects. Other medications, such as atropine, may be considered for specific arrhythmias like bradycardia.
