Képlet

Képlet is a Hungarian noun meaning "formula." It denotes a concise symbolic expression that defines how to calculate a quantity or represents a rule or relation. It is widely used in mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, engineering, and computing. In mathematics and science, a képlet expresses a general rule or a specific calculation, for example the area of a rectangle A = l × w, or the equation for the volume of a sphere V = (4/3)πr^3. In chemistry, the term accommodates chemical formulas such as water H2O, representing the composition of a substance. In everyday language, képlet can also mean a standard procedure or recipe, not necessarily written as a formal equation.

In computing and data tools, a képlet refers to a formula entered into a cell to perform calculations, using operators and references to other values, for example =A1+B1 or =SUM(A1:A10). The form allows the use of variables, constants, functions, and operators. The plural is képletek. The related term egyenlet refers to an equation, presenting an equality that may need to be solved, whereas a képlet provides a rule to compute or define a quantity.
