Kyynärvarrat

Kyynärvarrat refers to the forearm, the part of the upper limb between the elbow and the wrist. It consists of two long bones: the radius, located on the thumb side, and the ulna, located on the pinky finger side. These bones articulate with each other and with the humerus at the elbow joint, and with the carpal bones at the wrist joint. The forearm contains numerous muscles responsible for a wide range of movements.

These muscles can be broadly categorized into flexors and extensors. The flexor muscles are primarily located on the anterior (front) side of the forearm and are responsible for bending the wrist and fingers, as well as pronation of the forearm (turning the palm downwards). The extensor muscles are located on the posterior (back) side and are responsible for extending the wrist and fingers, as well as supination of the forearm (turning the palm upwards).

Several important nerves and blood vessels also run through the forearm, supplying these muscles and the hand. These include the median, ulnar, and radial nerves, as well as the brachial artery and its branches. The anatomy of the kyynärvarret is crucial for fine motor skills, grasping, and a multitude of everyday activities. Injuries to the forearm, such as fractures or muscle strains, can significantly impact a person's ability to perform these actions.
