The operation of a kylmäainepohjainen system typically involves a cyclical process. The refrigerant circulates through a closed loop, undergoing phase changes from liquid to gas and back. In the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the cooled space, vaporizing. This vapor then travels to the compressor, where its pressure and temperature are increased. The high-pressure, high-temperature vapor then moves to the condenser, where it releases heat to the surroundings and condenses back into a liquid. Current regulations and environmental awareness have led to the increased use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and natural refrigerants like carbon dioxide and propane, which have lower global warming potentials. The selection of a specific refrigerant depends on factors such as the application, desired cooling temperature, efficiency, safety, and environmental impact.
