Kuusissetulek

Kuusissetulek is a term used in Estonian to refer to monthly income, the amount of money a person earns in a calendar month from work and other sources. The precise definition depends on the context, but it is commonly used in statistical and policy discussions as a basic unit of income measurement.

It typically includes wages and salaries, self-employment earnings, pensions, and other cash incomes received during the month. Some contexts distinguish gross kuusissetulek (before taxes and social contributions) from net kuusissetulek (after deductions), depending on the data source.

Applications include income distribution analysis, poverty and living standards assessments, tax and social benefit policy design, and monthly income reporting in surveys. In Estonia, Statistics Estonia collects and publishes data on monthly income as part of wage statistics and household income surveys.

Limitations: monthly figures can vary due to seasonality or irregular earnings; kuusissetulek does not capture non-cash benefits or informal income; cross-country comparisons require careful harmonization of definitions.
