Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich (born January 8, 1946) is an American politician and lawyer from Cleveland, Ohio. He rose to national prominence as the youngest mayor of Cleveland, serving from 1977 to 1979. His administration faced a severe fiscal crisis, and he was recalled in 1978 after opposing the sale of the city’s municipal power company; the episode helped establish him as a reform-minded figure.

Kucinich later served in the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio from 1997 to 2013. A Democrat, he became known as a leading progressive voice on health care, foreign policy, and civil liberties. In Congress he championed universal health care, introducing H.R. 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act, and advocated for a non-interventionist foreign policy and a reduction in nuclear arms. He also gained attention for introducing articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in 2008.

He sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and again in 2008, campaigning on a platform that emphasized peace, economic justice, and healthcare reform. In 2012, after redistricting, Kucinich was defeated in the Democratic primary by Marcy Kaptur and left Congress in 2013. Since leaving office, he has remained active in politics and public affairs, continuing to advocate for progressive causes, constitutional reform, and diplomacy.
