Kuaizhou1A

The Kuaizhou-1A (KZ-1A) is a small, modular, solid-propellant launch vehicle developed by the Chinese Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). It is designed for rapid deployment and is capable of launching small satellites into low Earth orbit. The rocket is derived from the DF-21 medium-range ballistic missile, which allows for its quick assembly and launch preparation.

The KZ-1A typically features a three-stage solid rocket motor configuration, with an optional fourth stage for increased performance or deorbiting capabilities. Its payload capacity is approximately 200 kilograms to a 300-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit, or 300 kilograms to a 200-kilometer low Earth orbit. The vehicle is approximately 20 meters long and 1.4 meters in diameter.

Designed for commercial and governmental small satellite constellations, the KZ-1A emphasizes cost-effectiveness and short lead times for launches. Its launch system is also designed to be mobile, allowing it to be launched from various locations with minimal ground infrastructure. The first successful launch of the KZ-1A occurred in January 2017, carrying three small satellites. Since then, it has been used for multiple commercial and governmental missions, demonstrating its reliability and operational flexibility.
