kristallint is a term used to describe a substance that is crystalline. Crystalline substances are characterized by a regular, repeating three-dimensional arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules. This ordered structure is known as a crystal lattice. In contrast, amorphous substances lack this long-range order, with their constituent particles arranged in a disordered manner. The word "kristallint" originates from the Greek word "krystallos," meaning ice or crystal.

The crystalline nature of a material influences many of its physical properties, including its melting point, hardness, cleavage, and electrical conductivity. For instance, crystalline solids typically have sharp melting points because all the bonds within the crystal lattice are of similar strength and break at the same temperature. In contrast, amorphous solids soften gradually over a range of temperatures. Many common materials are crystalline, such as salt (sodium chloride), sugar, metals, and minerals like quartz. The specific arrangement of particles in the crystal lattice determines the crystal system and the overall shape of the crystal. Different crystalline forms of the same substance, known as polymorphs, can exhibit different physical properties.
