Korraldaceae

Korraldaceae is a proposed family of bacteria that has appeared in a limited number of taxonomic proposals. The family is not widely adopted in standard classifications and its circumscription remains unsettled. In some classifications, Korraldaceae is placed within the phylum Proteobacteria (also referred to by some systems as Pseudomonadota); in others it is listed as incertae sedis within Bacteria pending further data. The lack of cultured representatives and sparse genomic data have limited its characterization.

Regarding composition, the available evidence comes largely from environmental sequencing and metagenomic studies. As of the latest classifications, no described type genus or species within Korraldaceae has achieved universal recognition, and any included lineages are represented primarily by 16S rRNA gene sequences or genome bins. Consequently, proposed traits such as morphology, metabolism, and ecological roles remain provisional and unsupported by cultivated material.

Etymology and status: The name Korraldaceae follows standard nomenclatural conventions, forming -aceae from a genus name used in the initial description, and is employed in some taxonomic treatments as a placeholder until more data allow formal description and cultivation. The recognition of Korraldaceae thus reflects ongoing developments in bacterial taxonomy and the reorganization of higher-level groups as new genomic information becomes available.
