Konjugátumok, in Hungarian grammar, refer to the verbal forms that indicate the person and number of the subject, without needing an explicit subject pronoun. This phenomenon is known as verbal conjugation. Hungarian verbs are highly agglutinative, meaning suffixes are attached to the verb stem to convey grammatical information.

There are two main types of conjugation in Hungarian: definite and indefinite. Definite conjugation is used when the verb has a definite direct object, typically a pronoun (like "him", "her", "them") or a specific noun phrase. For example, "látom őt" (I see him) uses definite conjugation. Indefinite conjugation is employed when the direct object is indefinite or absent, such as in "látok valamit" (I see something) or simply "látok" (I see).

The conjugation system marks not only person (first, second, third) and number (singular, plural) but also tense (present, past) and mood (indicative, conditional, imperative). The richness of the conjugation system allows for precise expression of grammatical relationships. For instance, the same verb stem can take numerous suffixes to create distinct forms like "megyek" (I go - indefinite), "megyünk" (we go - indefinite), "megyek téged" (I go [to] you - definite), and "mentem őt" (I went [after] him - past definite). Understanding konjugátumok is crucial for fluency in Hungarian, as it forms the backbone of verbal sentence construction.
