Kompressionskühlung refers to a refrigeration cycle that utilizes the compression and expansion of a working fluid to absorb and dissipate heat. This thermodynamic process is fundamental to many refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The cycle typically involves four main stages: compression, condensation, expansion, and evaporation.

In the compression stage, a compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant gas. This high-pressure, high-temperature gas then moves to the condenser, where it releases heat to the surroundings, causing it to change from a gas to a high-pressure liquid.

Next, the high-pressure liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve or capillary tube, which significantly reduces its pressure and temperature. This low-pressure, low-temperature liquid then enters the evaporator.

In the evaporator, the cold refrigerant absorbs heat from the space or substance to be cooled, causing it to boil and evaporate back into a low-pressure gas. This gas is then drawn back into the compressor, and the cycle repeats.

The efficiency of a compression refrigeration system depends on factors such as the properties of the refrigerant used, the design of the components, and the operating conditions. Common refrigerants include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), chosen for their thermodynamic properties and environmental impact. This technology is widely employed in domestic refrigerators, freezers, and large-scale industrial cooling applications.
