Kokonaisvoittoa

Kokonaisvoittoa, or total profit, is a financial measure used to describe the overall profitability of an organization over a defined period. It represents the amount by which total revenues exceed total costs and expenses during that period. The exact scope of kokonaisvoittoa depends on the accounting framework and how revenues and costs are defined; in many contexts it is synonymous with tilikauden tulos (net profit) after taxes. In other contexts, it can refer to a broader notion that includes both operating and non-operating items and excludes some items reported directly in equity.

In practical terms, kokonaisvoittoa is typically calculated as total revenues minus all expenses, including cost of goods sold, operating expenses, depreciation and amortization, interest, and income taxes. It is related to other profitability measures such as gross profit (bruttovoitto), operating profit (liikevoitto), and net profit (nettovoitto). Some analyses distinguish kokonaisvoittoa from laaja tulos (comprehensive income), which includes items outside the income statement that affect equity.

Limitations: because the term is not strictly standardized, analysts should confirm which items are included in the calculation in a given report. The term can illuminate overall profitability, but may obscure the sources of profit if the composition of revenues or costs varies widely.
