Kohlenwasserstofflagerstätten, also known as hydrocarbon reservoirs, are subsurface accumulations of naturally occurring oil and natural gas. These deposits form over geological timescales when organic matter, typically from ancient marine organisms, is buried under layers of sediment and subjected to heat and pressure.
