Kiviöljyssä

Kiviöljyssä, which translates to "in crude oil" in Finnish, refers to the substance crude oil itself. Crude oil is a naturally occurring liquid found beneath the Earth's surface, consisting of a complex mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a fossil fuel formed over millions of years from the remains of ancient marine organisms. Its color can range from black to a yellowish brown, and its consistency varies.

The primary use of crude oil is as a source of energy. Through a process called refining, crude oil is separated into various fractions, each with different boiling points and uses. These fractions include gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, and heating oil, which power transportation and heating systems globally. Beyond fuels, crude oil is a crucial feedstock for the petrochemical industry. It is the raw material for manufacturing a vast array of products, including plastics, synthetic fibers, fertilizers, solvents, and pharmaceuticals.

The extraction of crude oil is a significant global industry, involving exploration, drilling, and transportation. Its economic importance is immense, influencing international trade and geopolitical relationships. However, the use of crude oil also raises environmental concerns, primarily due to the emission of greenhouse gases during combustion, contributing to climate change, and the risk of oil spills during extraction and transport.
