Kitobning

Kitobning is an Uzbek grammatical form that expresses a genitive or possessive relationship. It is derived from the noun kitob, meaning "book," and is formed by adding the possessive/genitive suffix ning after the head noun. In standard Uzbek, kitobning is used to link the book to another noun that indicates what belongs to or relates to the book, without requiring an explicit determiner like the English "the."

In practice, kitobning appears in noun phrases such as kitobning muallifi ("the author of the book"), kitobning sahifalari ("the pages of the book"), and kitobning mavzulari ("the topics of the book"). The construction can express ownership, authorship, content, or characteristics, and it remains versatile across registers from academic writing to journalism.

Because the suffix is attached directly to the head noun, kitobning forms a tight unit with the following noun. It is a basic and productive pattern in Uzbek grammar for signaling relationships between objects and their associated attributes.
