Ketonealcohols, also known as hydroxy ketones, are organic compounds that contain both a ketone functional group (C=O) and a hydroxyl functional group (-OH) within the same molecule. The relative positions of these two groups dictate their chemical properties and reactivity. If the hydroxyl group is attached to the carbon atom adjacent to the carbonyl carbon, the compound is classified as an alpha-hydroxy ketone. Beta-hydroxy ketones have the hydroxyl group on the carbon atom two positions away from the carbonyl carbon. Gamma-hydroxy ketones and delta-hydroxy ketones are also possible.
