Keratinosyytteillä
Keratinosyytteillä are the primary cell type found in the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. These cells are responsible for producing keratin, a tough, fibrous protein that forms the structural basis of skin, hair, and nails. Keratinocytes originate in the basal layer of the epidermis and undergo a process of differentiation as they migrate towards the surface. This journey involves several distinct stages, each characterized by changes in the cell's morphology and protein composition. As they mature, keratinocytes flatten and eventually form the stratum corneum, the outermost protective barrier of the skin. This barrier is crucial for preventing water loss, protecting against mechanical damage, and acting as a defense against pathogens. The continuous renewal of keratinocytes is a vital process for maintaining skin health and integrity. Disruptions in keratinocyte proliferation or differentiation can lead to various skin conditions.
