Kagawad
Kagawad is a term used in the Philippines to refer to a member of the sangguniang kabataan, which is the youth council of a barangay, the smallest administrative division in the country. The term "kagawad" is derived from the Spanish word "consejero," meaning counselor. Kagawads are elected by the youth population of a barangay and serve as representatives of the youth in local governance. Their roles typically include participating in the formulation and implementation of youth-oriented programs and policies, advocating for the rights and interests of the youth, and serving as a liaison between the youth and the barangay officials. The term "kagawad" is also used in other local government units in the Philippines, such as cities and municipalities, to refer to members of their respective youth councils. The term is not used in the national government.
