The expansion valve reduces the pressure and temperature of the liquid refrigerant, preparing it to absorb heat in the evaporator. Finally, the evaporator absorbs heat from the refrigerated space, causing the refrigerant to evaporate and return to the compressor, thus completing the cycle.
