Köldökartériák

Köldökartériák are two arteries that are part of the umbilical cord. They carry deoxygenated blood and waste products from the fetus to the placenta. During fetal development, the umbilical cord serves as the lifeline connecting the fetus to the mother's placenta. The köldökartériák are crucial for this vital exchange of nutrients and gases.

The köldökartériák originate from the internal iliac arteries within the fetus and run through the umbilical cord, which also contains a single umbilical vein. This vein carries oxygenated blood and nutrients from the placenta back to the fetus. The walls of the köldökartériák are relatively thick and muscular, which helps to regulate blood flow to the placenta.

After birth, the umbilical cord is no longer needed and is clamped and cut. The köldökartériák constrict and eventually degenerate, becoming part of the ligaments of the bladder. In rare cases, a persistent köldökartéria can occur, which may require medical attention. The presence and function of the köldökartériák are essential for healthy fetal growth and development.
