Jäähdytyslaitteistot, commonly referred to as refrigeration equipment, are systems designed to lower and maintain temperatures below ambient levels. Their primary function is to remove heat from a specific space or substance, thereby preserving perishable goods, facilitating industrial processes, or ensuring human comfort. These systems operate on thermodynamic principles, typically involving a refrigerant that circulates through a closed loop, absorbing heat in one location and releasing it elsewhere.

The fundamental components of most refrigeration systems include a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, and an evaporator. The compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant gas. The condenser then releases heat from the high-pressure refrigerant to the surroundings, causing it to liquefy. The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the liquid refrigerant, leading to a significant drop in its temperature. Finally, the evaporator absorbs heat from the refrigerated space as the cold, low-pressure refrigerant boils and turns back into a gas.

Refrigeration equipment finds widespread application across various sectors. In households, refrigerators and freezers are essential for food preservation. Commercially, they are used in supermarkets, restaurants, and food processing plants. Industrial applications range from chemical manufacturing and pharmaceuticals to data center cooling and ice rinks. Air conditioning systems, which provide cooling for buildings, are also a form of refrigeration equipment. The efficiency and type of refrigeration system are chosen based on the specific cooling requirements, capacity, and energy considerations.
