Jännitevarmistus refers to the process of verifying the presence or absence of voltage in an electrical system. This is a critical safety procedure performed before any maintenance or repair work is undertaken on electrical equipment. The primary goal is to ensure that the circuit is de-energized, thereby preventing the risk of electric shock.

The process typically involves using a voltage tester, such as a multimeter, a non-contact voltage tester, or a proving unit. Before testing the actual circuit, the voltage tester itself must be proven to be functioning correctly by testing it on a known live source.
