Julkaistaviksi

Julkaistaviksi is a Finnish linguistic form derived from the verb julkaista, meaning to publish. It is the translative plural form of the present active participle julkaistava, used to express that something is intended to be published or is in a state destined for publication. In practice, it conveys “for publication” or “to be published” when referring to multiple items.

The form is most common in editorial, publishing, and media workflows. It can function as a predicative complement after a form of olla (to be), as in texistit ovat julkaistaviksi (the texts are to be published), or as a modifier in noun phrases such as julkaistaviksi tarkoitetut kappaleet (the pieces intended for publication). The singular counterpart is julkaistavaksi, used for a single item.

Morphologically, julkaistaviksi combines the verb stem julkaista with the present participle suffix -va/-vä to form julkaistava, and then the translative plural suffix -iksi to yield julkaistaviksi. The translative case marks a change toward a new state, here the state of being published, and the plural ending signals multiple items. The construction is more common in formal or administrative Finnish than in casual speech, where simpler phrases like “julkaistava” or “julkaistut kappaleet” may be used.
