Itapecuru is a river in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. It is a tributary of the Parnaíba River, which in turn flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Itapecuru River originates in the municipality of São Luís, Maranhão, and flows generally eastward before joining the Parnaíba River near the city of Imperatriz. The river is approximately 350 kilometers long and has a drainage basin area of about 14,000 square kilometers. It plays a significant role in the local ecosystem, supporting various species of flora and fauna.
