Isnaashari
Isnaashari is a term derived from the Arabic word "ishna 'ashar," meaning "twelve." It is primarily used in the context of Shia Islam, specifically by Twelver Shias, to refer to their belief in twelve divinely appointed Imams. These Imams are considered the spiritual and political successors to the Prophet Muhammad. The lineage of the Imams begins with Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet, and continues through his descendants. The twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, is believed by Twelvers to be in occultation and will reappear at the end of times to establish justice and peace on Earth. The belief in the twelve Imams is a central tenet of Twelver Shia Islam and distinguishes it from other Islamic branches. The number twelve holds significant symbolic meaning within this tradition.
