Ismarus, also known as Ismaros, is a figure from Greek mythology. He is primarily mentioned in relation to the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca. According to the epic poem the Odyssey, after the fall of Troy, Odysseus and his men stopped at the land of the Cicones. It was here that Odysseus's crew raided the city of Ismarus.

The city of Ismarus was inhabited by the Cicones, a Thracian people. Odysseus's men, eager for plunder and perhaps a bit too confident after their victory at Troy, attacked and sacked the city. They killed many of the men and took their possessions, including women as captives. However, their victory was short-lived. The remaining Ciconian warriors, rallied by their leaders, counterattacked.

The Cicones, skilled warriors, inflicted heavy losses on Odysseus's men. The battle was fierce and costly for the Achaeans. Many of Odysseus's companions were killed, and they were forced to flee in their ships, having suffered a significant defeat. This encounter at Ismarus serves as the first major setback for Odysseus on his long journey home from Troy, highlighting the dangers and consequences of his crew's insubordination and greed. The story emphasizes that even in victory, caution and discipline are crucial.
