Investorid

Investoid is a term used to describe a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned by a financial institution or data platform to an individual or legal entity that holds investments. The investorid serves as a persistent reference across the investor's trading, custody, and recordkeeping activities, linking accounts, positions, orders, and correspondence within the institution's systems. It is typically internal to the provider and is not intended to replace public identifiers such as names or tax IDs, though it may be used in conjunction with them.

Purpose and usage: On onboarding, the institution creates an investorid for a new client. The investorid is used in trade capture, settlement instructions, performance reporting, and regulatory reporting. It helps reconcile data across back-office systems, CRM, and risk analytics. It can also support client service by enabling quick retrieval of the investor’s full profile.

Variations and standards: There is no universal standard for investorid. Each institution may implement its own scheme, and some jurisdictions encourage or require standardized client identifiers for interoperability, but the concept remains institution-specific. In some contexts, broader identifiers like LEI for entities or general client IDs across platforms may play a similar role, but investorid is typically distinct from public identifiers.

Privacy and governance: Access to investorids is restricted to authorized personnel, and data protection rules apply. Regular maintenance, de-duplication, and reconciliation are part of data governance to prevent errors.
