Intjänandeår

Intjänandeår is a Swedish term that translates to "earning year" or "service year" and is primarily used in the context of employee benefits, particularly regarding vacation rights. It refers to the period during which an employee accrues vacation days for the following year. Typically, the intjänandeår runs from January 1st to December 31st of a given year. The number of vacation days an employee is entitled to is calculated based on the length of their employment and the number of days worked during that specific intjänandeår.

For example, under the Swedish Vacation Act (Semesterlagen), employees generally accrue at least 25 vacation days per year, which corresponds to five weeks. If an employee works throughout an entire intjänandeår, they are entitled to their full annual vacation allowance. If employment starts or ends partway through the intjänandeår, the vacation entitlement is usually prorated. The vacation days earned during one intjänandeår can then be taken during the subsequent vacation year, which generally begins on April 1st and runs for 12 months.
