Interszekcionalitás

Interszekcionalitás, a term coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw, is a theoretical framework for understanding how various social and political identities like race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and disability intersect and create overlapping systems of discrimination or disadvantage. It posits that these identities cannot be examined in isolation, as their interactions can lead to unique experiences of oppression that are distinct from the sum of their parts.

For example, the experience of a Black woman may differ significantly from that of a Black man or a white woman, due to the specific ways in which racism and sexism intersect in her life. Interszekcionalitás highlights that individuals can hold multiple marginalized identities simultaneously, and the combination of these identities can lead to compounded discrimination. This framework is crucial for analyzing social inequality and developing more effective strategies for social justice, as it acknowledges the complexity of lived experiences and the interconnectedness of various forms of oppression. It encourages a more nuanced understanding of power structures and social stratification.
