Inhaltsvalidität

Inhaltsvalidität, often translated as content validity, is a type of validity that refers to the extent to which a test or measurement instrument accurately reflects the entire range of content or concepts it is intended to measure. It's about whether the items within a test adequately sample the domain of interest.

For example, if a mathematics test is designed to assess a student's understanding of algebra, content validity would examine whether the test includes questions that cover all the key algebraic concepts taught in the curriculum, such as solving equations, factoring polynomials, and understanding functions. A test lacking content validity might focus too heavily on one area of algebra while neglecting others.

Content validity is typically assessed through expert judgment. Subject matter experts in the relevant field review the test items and determine if they are representative of the domain and if they are clear, unambiguous, and appropriate for the target audience. This process often involves developing clear operational definitions of the domain to be measured and ensuring that the test items align with these definitions.

Unlike other forms of validity that might rely on statistical analysis or correlation with external criteria, content validity is primarily a qualitative assessment. It is crucial in the development of achievement tests, diagnostic assessments, and any measurement where comprehensive coverage of a specific subject matter is important. High content validity increases confidence that the test results accurately reflect the individual's knowledge or skills within the defined domain.
