This typically occurs when a property is sold, inherited, gifted, or as part of a divorce settlement. The transfer is a formal procedure that ensures the legal rights and responsibilities associated with the property are correctly assigned to the new owner.

The core of the ingatlanátírás process involves updating the official property registry, known as the földhivatal (Land Registry Office) in Hungary. This requires submitting specific documents, including the sale agreement or other legal basis for the transfer, identification documents of both the seller and buyer, and potentially other certificates depending on the nature of the transaction.

A key element of ingatlanátírás is the role of a lawyer or a notary public. They are responsible for drafting the legal documents, ensuring all parties understand the terms and conditions, and overseeing the correct submission of paperwork to the Land Registry.
