ISOTime

ISOTime refers to time representations that conform to ISO 8601, the international standard for date and time. The standard defines formats for time of day, full date-time, durations, and intervals, and is widely used to ensure unambiguous time stamps across systems.

Time of day is written as hh:mm:ss with optional decimal fractions and an optional time zone. A complete timestamp combines a calendar date and a time of day separated by a T, for example 2025-12-11T14:23:30Z or 2025-12-11T14:23:30+02:00. The standard supports extended notation with separators and basic notation without separators (20251211T142330).

Time zone designators include Z for UTC and offsets such as +hh:mm or -hh:mm. Fractions of a second may be included (e.g., 14:23:30.123). Some contexts permit 23:59:60 as a leap second, but many implementations do not support this value.

ISOTime formats are ubiquitous in programming, databases, logs, and data interchange due to their unambiguous semantics and cross-system compatibility. When using ISOTime, attention should be paid to time zones, daylight saving transitions, and precision requirements to avoid inconsistencies.
