ISC2

(ISC)², short for the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, is a nonprofit organization that develops and certifies information security professionals. Established in 1989, the organization operates globally, providing education, training resources, and credentials to advance the field of information security.

Its certification portfolio is led by CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), widely regarded as a flagship credential. Other certifications include SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner), CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional), CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional), HCISPP (HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner), and CAP (Certified Authorization Professional).

Certification process: candidates typically must meet professional experience requirements, pass a comprehensive exam, and be endorsed by an (ISC)²-certified professional. Some pathways allow Associate of (ISC)² status upon meeting prerequisites while completing required experience. To maintain certification, credential holders must earn Continuing Professional Education credits and pay maintenance fees; for example, CISSP requires a periodic CPE cycle of 120 credits over three years.

The organization also administers professional ethics standards, a code of ethics, and end-to-end professional development resources. It publishes research and guidance, including the annual Global Information Security Workforce Study, and works with accredited training partners, exam centers, and chapters to reach a global audience.
