ILACs

ILAC stands for International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation. It is an international association of accreditation bodies and other interested parties. The primary goal of ILAC is to facilitate trade and economic growth by ensuring that accredited testing, calibration, inspection, and certification services are accepted internationally.

ILAC works to develop and harmonize a global network of accreditation systems that are recognized as being competent and reliable. This is achieved through various means, including the development of international standards and guidelines, the promotion of peer evaluation of accreditation bodies, and the establishment of mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs). These MRAs allow a certificate or report issued by an accredited body in one signatory economy to be accepted in other signatory economies, reducing the need for re-testing and re-certification.

Membership in ILAC is open to accreditation bodies that meet specific criteria related to their competence and impartiality. The association plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and credibility of accreditation services worldwide, thereby supporting consumer confidence, regulatory compliance, and access to global markets for businesses. ILAC's activities contribute significantly to the reduction of technical barriers to trade.
