Hypogastrischer

Hypogastric refers to the anatomical region of the abdomen located below the umbilical region and above the pubic bone. It is also known as the lower central abdomen or the suprapubic region. This area contains several important organs and structures.

Within the hypogastric region, one finds the lower part of the small intestine, the rectum, the urinary bladder, and the distal portions of the ureters. In females, the uterus and ovaries are also situated within or partially within this area. In males, the prostate gland lies beneath the bladder, also in the hypogastric region.

Pain or discomfort in the hypogastric region can be indicative of various medical conditions affecting these organs. Common causes of hypogastric pain include bladder infections (cystitis), urinary tract infections, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, appendicitis (though typically starting in the right lower quadrant, pain can radiate), and gynecological issues such as pelvic inflammatory disease or uterine fibroids.

Diagnostic evaluation for hypogastric pain often involves a physical examination, medical history, and may include imaging studies such as an ultrasound or CT scan, as well as laboratory tests like urinalysis. Treatment depends entirely on the underlying cause of the pain.
