Hofteprotese

Hofteprotese, also known as hip replacement surgery, is a surgical procedure that involves replacing the hip joint with an artificial one. This artificial joint, or prosthesis, is typically made of metal alloys, plastic, and ceramic. The most common reason for a hip replacement is severe osteoarthritis, which causes pain and limits mobility. Other conditions that may necessitate this surgery include rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, and avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

The surgery aims to relieve pain, improve function, and restore mobility in the hip joint. During the procedure, the damaged parts of the hip joint, namely the femoral head (the ball) and the acetabulum (the socket), are removed. These are then replaced with the prosthetic components. The femoral component is inserted into the hollow center of the femur (thigh bone), and the acetabular component is fitted into the pelvis.

There are two main types of hip replacement: total hip replacement and partial hip replacement. In a total hip replacement, both the femoral head and the acetabulum are replaced. A partial hip replacement, also known as a hemiarthroplasty, typically replaces only the femoral head. The choice between these procedures depends on the specific condition and the patient's overall health. Recovery time varies, but most patients begin to see improvements in pain and mobility within weeks of the surgery. Rehabilitation, including physical therapy, is a crucial part of the recovery process to regain strength and range of motion.
