Histonkern
Histonkern is a term used in molecular biology to refer to the core structure of nucleosomes. A nucleosome is the fundamental repeating unit of DNA organization in eukaryotic cells. It consists of a segment of DNA wound around a protein core. This protein core, the histonkern, is made up of eight histone proteins: two copies each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. These histone proteins are known as the core histones. The DNA is typically wrapped around the histonkern approximately 1.65 times, forming a structure that compacts the long DNA molecule.
