Himoohindamise

Himoohindamise is a rare sound change phenomenon in the Ryuukyuu (Okinawan) language. It is a sound shift in which the Proto-Austronesian sound */r*/ is modified to a voiced alveolar flap /*ɽ*/, while the sound */d*/ is modified to a voiced uvular fricative /*χ/.

This sound change is considered part of the evolutionary process of the Ryuukyuu language, which developed from the Proto-Austronesian language. Himoohindamise is significant in that it distinguishes the Ryuukyuu language from other Austronesian languages in the region.

In the Ryuukyuu language, the sound */r*/ is pronounced as a voiced alveolar flap, which is represented by the letter /*ɽ*/ in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Similarly, the sound */d*/ is pronounced as a voiced uvular fricative, represented by the letter /*χ*/ in the IPA.
