Helyiértékre
Helyiértékre, meaning "place value" in Hungarian, is a fundamental concept in mathematics. It refers to the value a digit has by virtue of its position within a number. In a base-10 (decimal) system, each digit's place value is a power of 10. Moving from right to left, the place values are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, and so on. For example, in the number 345, the digit 5 is in the ones place, representing 5 * 1, the digit 4 is in the tens place, representing 4 * 10, and the digit 3 is in the hundreds place, representing 3 * 100.
Understanding place value is crucial for performing arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
