Heijastusmenetelmiä, eli reflection methods in English, refers to a group of techniques used in various fields, particularly in optics and engineering, to manipulate or analyze light or other waves by causing them to bounce off a surface. These methods are fundamental to understanding how light interacts with matter and are employed in a wide array of applications.

In optics, reflection methods are crucial for designing lenses, mirrors, and optical instruments. The law of reflection, which states that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection, is a core principle governing these techniques. Applications include telescopes, microscopes, and even everyday items like mirrors in bathrooms and car headlights. Total internal reflection, a specific phenomenon where light is completely reflected back into a denser medium when it strikes a boundary with a less dense medium at a sufficiently large angle, is another key concept enabling technologies like fiber optics.

Beyond optics, reflection principles are used in sonar for underwater navigation and imaging, in radar for detecting objects and measuring distances, and in non-destructive testing to identify internal flaws in materials.
