Handsehnen

Handsehnen refers to the tendons found in the hand and wrist. These are tough, fibrous cords of connective tissue that connect muscles in the forearm to the bones in the hand and fingers. They are crucial for enabling a wide range of hand movements, from fine motor skills like writing and typing to powerful actions like gripping.

There are two main groups of tendons in the hand: flexor tendons and extensor tendons. The flexor tendons, located on the palm side of the hand, are responsible for bending the fingers and wrist towards the palm. The extensor tendons, situated on the back of the hand, control the straightening of the fingers and wrist. These tendons glide through sheaths and pulleys, lubricated by synovial fluid, which reduces friction and allows for smooth movement.

Injuries to hand tendons, such as tears or ruptures, can significantly impair hand function and often require medical attention. Tendinitis, an inflammation of the tendons, is another common condition that can cause pain and stiffness. Rehabilitation following tendon injuries is a critical part of restoring full use of the hand.
