Halogenanioner

Halogenanioner are negatively charged ions formed from halogen elements. The halogens are the elements in Group 17 of the periodic table, consisting of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and astatine (At). When a halogen atom gains one electron, it becomes a halide ion, carrying a single negative charge. For example, a fluorine atom becomes a fluoride ion (F⁻), a chlorine atom becomes a chloride ion (Cl⁻), and so on.

These halide ions are common in chemistry and are found in many ionic compounds. For instance, sodium chloride (NaCl), common table salt, is composed of sodium cations (Na⁺) and chloride anions (Cl⁻). Similarly, potassium bromide (KBr) consists of potassium cations (K⁺) and bromide anions (Br⁻). The size of the halogenanion increases as you move down Group 17, with fluoride being the smallest and astatide being the largest. Their reactivity and properties vary accordingly. Halogenanioner play crucial roles in biological systems, industrial processes, and various chemical reactions.
