Hahdutusjäähdytys

Hahdutusjäähdytys, also known as cascade refrigeration, is a refrigeration technique that utilizes two or more independent refrigeration cycles, where the condenser of one cycle serves as the evaporator for the next. This arrangement allows for the achievement of much lower temperatures than a single refrigeration cycle can typically produce. In a typical two-stage cascade system, a high-temperature refrigerant is used in the first cycle. Its condenser rejects heat to the environment or a cooling medium. The second cycle operates at a lower temperature, using a refrigerant that can efficiently evaporate at the temperatures produced by the first cycle's condenser.

The cascade principle is particularly useful for applications requiring very low temperatures, such as those found in scientific research, industrial processes like food freezing, and specialized air conditioning systems. Each stage of the cascade operates within its optimal temperature range, leading to improved efficiency compared to a single-stage system attempting to achieve the same extreme temperature. The refrigerants chosen for each stage are selected based on their thermodynamic properties and operating temperature ranges, ensuring efficient heat transfer and overall system performance.
