Hafsa

Hafsa is a female given name of Arabic origin. It is widely used among Muslim communities and has several transliterations, including Hafsah.

In Islamic tradition, Hafsa bint Umar (d. 7th century) was the wife of the Prophet Muhammad and the daughter of Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second caliph. She is counted among the Prophet's wives and is recognized as a transmitter of hadith.

Some traditions also associate Hafsa with the preservation of Qur'anic material; it is said she possessed a manuscript that was consulted during the compilation of the Qur'an under Caliph Uthman.

Today, Hafsa remains a common name in the Arab world, South Asia, and other Muslim-majority regions, with several spelling variants used across languages.
