HRHER2

HRHER2 refers to a subset of breast cancers that are both hormone receptor-positive (HR+) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+). Hormone receptor status indicates whether the cancer cells have receptors for estrogen and/or progesterone, which can fuel their growth. HER2 is a protein that can also promote the growth of cancer cells.

Approximately 15-20% of breast cancers are HER2-positive. Of these, a significant portion are also HR-positive. This combination means that the cancer can be driven by both hormonal signals and the HER2 protein. Identifying this subtype is crucial for determining the most effective treatment strategies.

Treatments for HRHER2 breast cancer often involve a combination of therapies. Hormone therapy is used to block the effects of estrogen and/or progesterone, while targeted therapies are employed to inhibit the HER2 protein. Chemotherapy may also be used, depending on the stage and characteristics of the cancer. Research continues to advance in understanding and treating this specific subtype of breast cancer.
