HLAkompatibilitás

HLAkompatibilitás refers to the compatibility of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) molecules between individuals. HLA genes are highly polymorphic, meaning they have many different versions within the population. These genes are crucial for the immune system, particularly in recognizing foreign tissues and triggering an immune response.

HLAkompatibilitás is a critical factor in organ transplantation and blood transfusions. When an organ or blood is transplanted from one person to another, the recipient's immune system can recognize the donor's HLA molecules as foreign if they are not sufficiently similar. This recognition can lead to an immune rejection of the transplanted tissue or organ, a process where the recipient's immune system attacks the foreign cells.

To minimize the risk of rejection, HLA typing is performed on both the donor and recipient. This process identifies the specific HLA alleles present in each individual. The greater the similarity in HLA alleles between the donor and recipient, the higher the likelihood of successful transplantation with fewer complications. Specialized laboratory techniques are used to perform HLA typing.

While perfect HLA matching is ideal, it is not always achievable due to the vast diversity of HLA alleles. In such cases, strategies such as using immunosuppressive drugs are employed to dampen the recipient's immune response and prevent rejection. HLAkompatibilitás also plays a role in other immunological contexts, such as autoimmune diseases and vaccine responses, although its significance is most pronounced in transplantation.
