Génmködés, a term originating from Hungarian, translates to "gene activation" or "gene expression" in English. It refers to the intricate process by which the information encoded within a gene is used to synthesize a functional gene product, typically a protein or a functional RNA molecule. This process is fundamental to all living organisms, dictating cellular function, development, and response to environmental stimuli.

The journey of génmködés begins with transcription, where a specific segment of DNA, a gene, is copied into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule. This mRNA then travels from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, the mRNA molecule serves as a template for translation, where ribosomes read the mRNA sequence in three-nucleotide codons. Each codon specifies a particular amino acid, and these amino acids are sequentially linked together to form a polypeptide chain.
