Gungrave

Gungrave is a third-person shooter video game developed by Red Entertainment and published by Taito. It was initially released for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. The game is known for its distinctive cel-shaded visual style and its high-octane action gameplay. Players control Brandon Heat, a resurrected hitman seeking revenge against the crime syndicate that betrayed him. The core gameplay involves intense gunfights, utilizing a variety of firearms and a special ability called "Grave Mode," which enhances Brandon's powers and unlocks powerful attacks.

The narrative of Gungrave is set in the fictional city of Millennion, a metropolis dominated by organized crime. Brandon Heat, once a top enforcer for the syndicate, is betrayed and killed by his closest friend, Harry McDowell. Years later, Brandon is resurrected by a mysterious young woman named Mika Asagi, who possesses latent psychic abilities and seeks his help against the now-powerful McDowell, who has risen to become the leader of the syndicate. The story explores themes of revenge, loyalty, and the consequences of ambition.

Gungrave received a sequel, Gungrave: Overdose, in 2004, which expanded upon the story and introduced new characters and gameplay mechanics. A reboot of the series, Gungrave G.O.R.E., was released in 2017, bringing the franchise to modern platforms with updated graphics and gameplay. The series has also been adapted into an anime television series, Gungrave, which aired in 2003. The anime follows a similar storyline to the game but with some narrative differences and expansions.
