Gullmarn

Gullmarn is a fjord located in the province of Bohuslän on the west coast of Sweden. It is the only fjord in Sweden that is considered a true fjord due to its geological formation. The fjord extends approximately 25 kilometers inland from the Skagerrak strait. Its width varies, typically being around 2 to 4 kilometers. The maximum depth of Gullmarn is approximately 120 meters.

The landscape surrounding Gullmarn is characterized by rocky shores, steep cliffs, and a mix of coniferous and deciduous forests. The water in the fjord is brackish, a result of the mixing of saltwater from the sea and freshwater runoff from rivers and streams. This unique salinity gradient supports a diverse range of marine life, including species typically found in colder, saltier waters further north, as well as those adapted to less saline conditions.

Gullmarn is a protected area and is part of the Gullmarn Nature Reserve, established to preserve its natural beauty and ecological significance. The reserve encompasses both the fjord itself and the surrounding terrestrial areas. The area is popular for recreational activities such as boating, fishing, and hiking. The unique underwater environment also makes it a site of interest for diving.
