Granzymekifejtésével, a Hungarian term, translates to "release of granzymes." Granzymes are a family of serine proteases that play a critical role in the immune system, particularly in cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer (NK) cells. These cells are essential for eliminating infected or cancerous cells.

Upon activation, CTLs and NK cells release granzymes, along with other cytotoxic molecules like perforin. Perforin forms pores in the target cell membrane, allowing granzymes to enter the cytoplasm. Once inside, granzymes initiate a cascade of events leading to programmed cell death, or apoptosis. This process involves activating caspases, a group of proteases that dismantle cellular components in a controlled manner.

The release of granzymes is a tightly regulated process. It is triggered by specific signals received by the cytotoxic cell, ensuring that granzymes are only deployed when necessary and against appropriate targets. This targeted apoptosis is crucial for maintaining tissue homeostasis and preventing the spread of pathogens or the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Dysregulation of granzyme function has been implicated in various autoimmune diseases and certain types of cancer.
